<image:caption>Cheryl Grace, RN, BSN, CPN Cheryl Grace graduated from Central Missouri State University in 1990 with her BS in Nursing. She worked at Children's Mercy Hospital on the Hematology/Oncology unit, as a sedation nurse, and a charge nurse in Urgent Care. She is a Certified Pediatric Nurse and an instructor in Pediatric Advanced Life Support and Basic Life Support. Cheryl is a lifelong resident of Kansas City North. She married her high school sweetheart in 1991 and they currently reside in the area with their three active boys. In 2000, their son Carter died suddenly from cardiac arrest. They started a foundation in his memory called Carter's Gift From the Heart. The foundation places Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs) in schools, churches, and places where people gather. AEDs provide electrical defibrillation (shocks), and this lifesaving defibrillation must occur within minutes after cardiac arrest to increase the chance for survival. We hope that because of Carter, others experiencing sudden cardiac arrest may have a second chance. Email Cheryl</image:caption>

      <image:title>About - Transforming mental healthcare</image:title>
<image:caption>We specialize in congenital heart problems from birth to adult. We will see children for evaluation of heart problems including murmurs, a weak heart (cardiomyopathy), heart inflammation (myocarditis and Kawasaki disease), too fast or too slow heart rates (tachycardia and bradycardia), high blood pressure (hypertension), high cholesterol (lipid disorders), chest pain, palpitations, dizziness, fainting (syncope), blackouts, loss of consciousness, and a family history of heart disease to name a few. KC Pediatric Cardiology offers cardiology consultations, cardiac sports screening, echocardiograms, electrocardiograms, Holter monitors, and Event Recorders. We also have expertise in diagnosing heart problems in babies before birth. We offer detailed fetal echocardiograms and specialized counseling to help families understand what to expect and to prepare even before their baby is born. We work diligently to find appointment times that fit your busy schedule and allow plenty of time for you to get your questions answered. We understand that this can be stressful, and we value your time in our office. Our small practice provides patient and family centered care with a personal, individualized approach. Explore the resources on our web page! Patient Resources is where you can find out information about your next visit, and log in to the Patient Portal. The Education link is a great resource to a lot of information about the heart (El vínculo Educación es un recurso completo a la información sobre el corazón). We can't wait to see you here!</image:caption>

      <image:title>We Support - Carter’s Gift from the Heart</image:title>
<image:caption>Carter’s Gift From The Heart foundation was started in memory of our son James Carter Grace. Carter was a very healthy, happy and active little boy. He loved to be outside playing, running, and searching for bugs. He was truly a joy and loved by all that knew him. On June 25, 2000 Carter died suddenly at the age of three years and eleven months. The cause of his death was found to be viral myocarditis. This inflammation of the heart was probably caused by the flu he had earlier that week. The result was an abnormal heart rhythm, which led to sudden cardiac arrest. Sudden cardiac arrest can be an unpredictable, silent killer. Carter did not have any warning signs prior to his death. Because of our experience, we know how important it is to live in a heart safe community. Carter’s Gift From the Heart foundation was started in 2002. It is supported by an annual golf tournament called The Kids Classic. Carter’s foundation works to place Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs) in schools, churches, and other places where people gather. AEDs provide electrical defibrillation (shock) and have been designed to be used by nonmedical people outside the hospital setting. Defibrillation must occur within minutes after cardiac arrest to increase the chance for survival. Our family has been faced with an indescribable loss. We hope that because of Carter’s short life, others experiencing sudden cardiac arrest may have a second chance.
